Implementing Sustainable Agriculture Practices in Communities Vulnerable to Climate Change

The Noble Youth Foundation (NOYO Foundation) is at the forefront of driving positive change in the Lango region of Northern Uganda. Through our diverse projects and strong partnerships, we address critical issues such as community resilience, gender-based violence, agricultural productivity, nutrition, renewable energy, and market access. Our commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment continues to transform lives and build a brighter future for the people of Northern Uganda.

Noble Youth Foundation (NOYO Foundation) Projects Overview

The Noble Youth Foundation (NOYO Foundation) is a non-governmental and community-based organization dedicated to uplifting communities in the Lango region of Northern Uganda. Through various projects, NOYO Foundation focuses on enhancing livelihoods, building resilience, and fostering sustainable development. Our initiatives, funded by several esteemed partners, span multiple districts including Lira, Alebtong, Otuke, Kole, Dokolo, and Apac. Below is an overview of our key projects.

1. Plan International Uganda: Building Resilient Communities

With funding from the Ministry of Internal Affairs Finland, NOYO Foundation collaborates with Plan International Uganda to empower communities in Lira and Alebtong districts. This partnership focuses on enhancing local capacities to manage and mitigate the impacts of environmental changes. Through training and community-led initiatives, we aim to foster a resilient and sustainable future.

2. ACTADE and IIED: Local Adaptation Knowledge Systems

In partnership with ACTADE and IIED, and with support from IDRC, NOYO Foundation is implementing a project to build community resilience through locally led adaptation knowledge systems in Alebtong district. This project aims to harness indigenous knowledge and integrate it with modern practices to enhance the community’s ability to adapt to climatic changes. By involving local leaders and community members, we ensure the solutions are practical and sustainable.

3. Uganda Fund: Supporting SGBV Survivors

Supported by the MacArthur Foundation, NOYO Foundation is committed to assisting survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in Otuke District. This project provides comprehensive support including counseling, legal assistance, and economic empowerment programs. By addressing both the immediate and long-term needs of survivors, we strive to restore their dignity and help them rebuild their lives.

4. Private Sector Foundation Uganda: Enhancing Oli Seed Production

With funding from the World Bank, NOYO Foundation, through the Private Sector Foundation Uganda, is implementing a project aimed at improving oli seed production and productivity in Kole, Lira, and Otuke districts. Under the Skills Development Facility Grant, this initiative focuses on training farmers in modern agricultural practices, providing access to quality seeds, and enhancing market linkages. The goal is to boost farmers’ incomes and ensure food security in the region.

5. USAID/Community Connector: Nutrition and Agriculture

Through the support of USAID and in partnership with FHI 360, NOYO Foundation is enhancing nutrition and agricultural practices in Kole and Lira districts. The project promotes savings with a purpose and market linkages to create a sustainable agricultural ecosystem. By training farmers in effective farming techniques and facilitating access to markets, we help improve household nutrition and economic stability.

6. EnVenture: Clean and Renewable Energy

In collaboration with EnVenture, NOYO Foundation is promoting clean and renewable energy solutions in Lira, Dokolo, Apac, Kole, Otuke, and Alebtong. This project focuses on conserving the environment and saving trees by introducing energy-efficient stoves and solar lighting solutions. By reducing reliance on traditional biomass fuels, we aim to improve health outcomes and protect the environment.

7. Business Development: TruTrade Market Access

NOYO Foundation is also dedicated to business development, particularly in connecting young farmers with better market opportunities through TruTrade. This initiative ensures that farmers receive fair prices for their produce by linking them directly with buyers. By improving market access, we enhance the economic prospects of young farmers and contribute to the overall development of the agricultural sector.
