Raising Awareness, Reducing Stigma, and Providing Support for Children and Youth Affected by HIV/AIDS and Malaria in Uganda

Welcome to the Noble Youth Foundation (NOYO Foundation), a non-governmental organization (NGO) and community-based organization (CBO) dedicated to uplifting the lives of the people in Uganda, especially in the Lango region of Northern Uganda. Our mission is to foster sustainable development and improve the well-being of communities through various projects and initiatives.

Our Projects

At NOYO Foundation, we have several key projects that address different aspects of community development, focusing on education, health, environmental sustainability, and economic empowerment. Here are some of our major projects:

1. Community Resilience through Locally Led Adaptation Knowledge Systems

Partners: ACTADE and IIED
Support: IDRC
Location: Alebtong District

One of our flagship projects is aimed at building community resilience through locally led adaptation knowledge systems. This project, conducted in partnership with ACTADE and IIED and supported by IDRC, focuses on enhancing the ability of communities in Alebtong district to adapt to climatic changes.

Goals of the Project:

  • Harnessing Indigenous Knowledge: We gather and document indigenous knowledge on climate adaptation, ensuring that valuable traditional practices are preserved and utilized.
  • Integrating Modern Practices: By combining indigenous knowledge with modern agricultural and environmental practices, we create robust adaptation strategies.
  • Engaging Local Leaders and Community Members: Local leaders and community members are actively involved in the planning and implementation process to ensure the solutions are practical and sustainable.

Locally Led Adaptation Knowledge Systems

Locally led adaptation knowledge systems are at the heart of our efforts to build resilient communities. These systems involve the integration of indigenous knowledge with modern practices to address the challenges posed by climate change.

What Are Locally Led Adaptation Knowledge Systems?

Locally led adaptation knowledge systems are frameworks that leverage local knowledge and practices, combined with scientific insights, to develop effective adaptation strategies. These systems are community-centric, ensuring that the solutions are culturally relevant and sustainable.

Key Components:

  • Indigenous Knowledge: Traditional practices and insights that have been passed down through generations. This includes knowledge about local weather patterns, agricultural practices, and natural resource management.
  • Modern Practices: Scientific and technological advancements that can enhance traditional practices. This includes modern agricultural techniques, climate forecasting tools, and sustainable resource management practices.
  • Community Engagement: Active involvement of community members in identifying challenges, developing solutions, and implementing strategies. This ensures that the adaptation measures are practical and widely accepted.

Benefits:

  • Sustainability: By integrating indigenous knowledge with modern practices, the adaptation strategies are more likely to be sustainable in the long term.
  • Resilience: Communities become more resilient to climatic changes, reducing their vulnerability to extreme weather events.
  • Empowerment: Community members gain a sense of ownership and empowerment as they are actively involved in the adaptation process.
